Dear Reviewing Committee:
I am a figurative painter and sculptor
with a flair for portraiture and landscape, who has discovered and developed,
over
the past seven years,
a new, visual-arts repertoire: scenic
art for the theater and music hall.
No visual-art form is complete without
a serious consideration of materials and composition. Therefore,
I find myself challenged to go beyond bare-boned representation. I take
heed of aesthetic mattersfrom inception to completion, indeed
relying heavily on serendipitous effects. Not only do I watch
for "happy accidents," I set
myself up for these mysterious
events
to occur. Let it suffice
to say that while exploring the five
elements of
composition,
line, value, color, texture,
and shape, one can produce
a
world of interestingly beautiful effects,
whether of representational or
abstract content.
I am responsible, energetic, and possess
excellent communication skills.
I am receptive,
and although I am usually somewhat taciturn, my voice,
clear and strong, gives me an advantage as a public speaker.
Indeed, I do much
public speaking where I work, teaching
brain-injured clients life's skills.
My many interests include acting, singing,
reading, photography, psy
chology, natural sciences, architecture,
and nature (the out-of-doors).
I enjoy health-giving activities, such
as, bicycling, cross-country
skiing, weight training, isometrics,
and western-style horsemanship, having been partly reared on
cattle and sheep
ranches from a very early age.
I invite you to peruse my visual-arts
and performing-arts resumes which include myriad theater productions
in which I have participated both as a performer and scenic
artist. I hope that you will consider me as being a strong contender
for the job of which I have been invited to submit an application,
a job which I think would suit us very well in light of my skills, talents,
education; my experience as a teacher and as an artist, and because of my
interest in the live theater.
